Status Update

Ok.

Things went a little nuts there for a while. We had some explosions in the lab, a few of our top men got a little singed. But we're making progress, and we have a lot to report.

First, where I've been for the past week. Now, I know the teeming multitudes that read my Internet Journal (or "blog," as the kids call it) have been wondering where the hell I'd gone. Well. Virginia. For a wedding. Of a friend I've known since 2nd grade, in Mrs. Shetler's class. And it was FANTASTIC. A real old-fashioned Southern wedding; very opulent and, no doubt, pricey.

And the food, my god, the food! Over 3 nights of activities we had: pulled pork BBQ, crawfish etoufee (TWICE!), dirty rice, grits, andouille jambalaya, Virginia ham and biscuits, something called "spoonbread", garlic potatoes, sweet potatoes, pecan pie, chocolate fondue, chocolate chip cheesecake, and all manner of alcoholic beverages - Louisiana beer, Virginia beer, German beer, and wine from the vineyard where the reception was held. Needless to say, I left Charlottesville fat and happy.

Oh, and the ceremony was nice, too.

ALSO...

There's news on the job front. As you may recall from my previous post, I was thrilled to be offered a job at long last. Well, that lasted a short day. Another organization called and offered me another position, much closer to what I want to do. So I had a dilemma...

I felt TERRIBLE about calling up the first place and telling them that I had to quit, but it had to be done. I'm not out here to make other people's jobs easier. I need to focus on my own career. So I tried to maneuver this without burning any bridges. I'm not sure if I was successful, but the important thing is that I have a job in the area in which I want to be.

Food. Jobs. That constant flow of ladies in and out of my apartment. Ahh, California is sweeter than I thought it was.
